Arctic Monkeys - Black Treacle

Arctic Monkeys release their new video for "Black Treacle", wait... Black treacle? I realize while taking a look at the Brits discography that I had a wrong preception about their choice of their singles. I don't know why but I thought some non-remarkable songs had been singles and they were actually not.

Actually you can find a lot great tracks on their albums, but out of their 6 first singles, none of them shouldn't be dismissed:  "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", "When the Sun Goes Down", "Leave Before the Lights Come On",Brainstorm "Brianstorm", "Fluorescent Adolescent" and "Teddy Picker" would be in any Monkeys' compilation of mine.

After that, the hard "Humbug", the new American direction by Josh Homme and the start of the commercial drop -only in singles-. Starting with "Crying Lightning", in my opinion, the best both the most succesful of their latest, until this one.

It is funny that I prefer the more paced tracks out of their latest album "Suck it and see". But if you ask me I would have picked  "That's where you're wrong", although I prefer "Black Treacle" to their 2 latest singles. There is one thing for sure: the two first albums are for DJing, jumping, dancing... The other two are for listening at home.

By the way, Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane will be in Palau Sant Jordi next January 28. I'm thinking about it...

  1. I couldn't agree more with you. Personally there best two albums are the first and second also I wished they had released Mardy Bum as a single.

Most of there singles after Humbug like you said have been shoddy, I am also not a fan of Suck it and see it.

  2. :) True! "Mardy bum" is a great song as well, and perhaps I enjoy it more than some of those mentioned, also I just remembered "A certain romance"... what a tune!

Definitely! It's the same for me, the newer the work, the more complicated... Don't really care if Alex Turner is becoming more a poet than anything, I'm just expecting music. If it has great lyrics, perfect, but first of all I look for music.

Ah! I'm in love with "Piledriver Waltz" from his Submarine EP... slow, but killer!

  3. I really loved his Submarine EP, very good. What do you think of Miles Kane?

I have really gone off the Monkeys though, I just feel I can see an end in sight for them but there meant to be working on a new album already?

Maybe time for the Last Shadow Puppets to return?

  4. Well I'm not the biggest fan of Miles Kane, but I recognize I enjoy some of his songs, especially "Re-arrange".

It seems the Last Shadow Puppets will be back soon! Perhaps I'm more prepared now than back in 2008. It was such a drastical change, right?
