UNDER PRESSURE...

...that's how I've been! Thanks Music I survived... thanks tons of notes I kept my girly/irrational/emotional side alive in a world of engineers!!!
And here I am, I finally join the music research team during the intermezzo between my graduation and my first job!

The swedish José González deserves some recognition: what's better than guitar & voice to let the inner thoughts out? It's unexplainable how simplicity can be so stunning sometimes. And this guy is the master of that magic. Listen how his voice is able to render Heartbeats (by The Knives) and Teardrop (by Massive Attack) - if the video of the original song was weird, well, look at this! Anyway... he'll cast some light and you'll be alright.

And now some tough women, starting with Emily Haines and the energetic Gold Guns Girls from the new Metric album, Fantasies (check it out!). And talking about Metric... ever listened to this "Monster Hospital" remix by MSTRKRFT? I love it.

But here's what lately surprised me most: I got to know Kaki King's music, she's an amazing artist. I'm never tired of listening to songs like Pull Me Out Alive (cool video) and instrumental tracks as well - Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers above all. Her technique with the acoustic guitar is terrific, sometimes unbelievable. And I bet she's even better live. I saw something similar at the concert of an italian guitarist, Giovanni Baglioni (@ italian people: he has nothing to do with his father Claudio!), inspired by Michael Hedges technique: his performance really got me!
And if you loved the soundtrack of the movie Into The Wild like I did, there's something more than Eddie Vedder's album: a score including pieces by... guess who?

But now, to get rid - for a while - of the thoughts that such a movie arises... please, listen to some Crocomaaaan!!! Summer's getting closer... don't worry about a thing!!!

Music Festivals (part 2) - Sónar 2009

Time now for Barcelona's International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art (18-20 June), an arty both neverending name for what is commonly known as Sónar, probably the best electronic music festival in Europe.

A couple of weeks ago the festival was officially presented with the confirmation of Animal Collective, a surprise, but not so much after delivering a new album very influenced by electronic music. The eclecticism is present on the line-up of the festival where we find the legen-dary Orbital and the muse Grace Jones, mutant English hip-hoppers Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Moderat (Apparat + Modeselektor) from Berlin, 2008 winners as Crookers, Crystal Castles and Late of The Pier, guerrilheiros Buraka Som Sistema, English electro-rock dj messiah Erol Alkan, the next big thing La Roux, and for the 3rd year in a row the Ed Banger stage with the delicious Breakbot, SebastiAn and the boss,... And that is just a summary of the still incomplete line-up! Check it out!

The festival is divided in two parts: Sónar de Dia (Daytime Sonar), a chance to enjoy outdoor performances, enlarge your agenda, and a perfect choice for those who like to say that they were on the festival. And Sónar de Nit (Sónar at night) that brings the biggest performances and definitely the place to be!

Tickets are available for the three days of the festival: a 3-Day Ticket for 140€ that allows you to go to all the performances or single day tickets for Sonar Day (30€ per day) and Sonar Night (48€ per night).

I hope to see you there!

Music Festivals (part 1) - FIB 2009

Proposals for summer are already popping up on everyone's conversation. And what is better than a summer festival? I mean, put together these thousand girls and boys 100% hormonically loaded, give them a big space, full of fun and sun, day 'n' nite, the lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite... And what if we mix it up along some of the best music acts of the last years?

FIB which stands for Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, is one of the most important festivals in Spain and Europe, and definitely a classic after 15 years. Just today I received an e-mail from the organization claiming there are only 1000 tickets with camping access left day-tickets left - Glastonbury's sold out too by the way-.

Britpop legends Oasis lead the line-up, about 60% done right now, along mainstream let's call it indie rock bands The Killers and Kings Of Leon and the coolest band in the world Franz Ferdinand. Other remarkable shows are The ("new") Horrors', indie favorites TV On The Radio, 2008's sensations Late of The Pier, Glasvegas and Lykke Li, Spaniards CatPeople and Nacho Vegas, the electronic sessions/showcases by Boys Noize, Peaches, Laurent Garnier, Gui Boratto, or Yuksek, the controversial Lily Allen, we are the mods Paul Weller and 70's post-punk outfit Magazine.

I probably told you about this festival a thousand of times, but it is just massive in every kind of way and it deserves the hype. FIB's got a cool camping area with nice restricted-hot-water showers, a huge beach nearby where you can toast yourself (the week after you'll be totally black), and a young ambience rounding the twenties with a lot of English people having orange juice at 5 in the morning.

And if you appreciate music, you will just love it. By the way, it takes you another week to recover yourself, but it's just worth it. Tickets here
