Oh merde, mon amour nothing's enough

It turns out that The Plan was the side project for Theodor Jensen who along Håkan Hellström (amongst others) was part of Swedish 90s (and early 00s) indie iconic band Broder Daniel.

Funny thing is that the latter (singing in English) and Håkan's solo career achieved big success and might actually tell that they are prophets in their own land, not internationally though. Similar case to Los Planetas here, but these ones singing in Spanish. Surely, it was just a question of time for ones and language for the others: back in the days The Internet wasn't such a powerful tool yet and non-English songs hardly hit the stores, blushy exceptions a part.

Released circa 2001, don't expect electronic, over-layered sounds, distorted guitars, quirky beats or tropicalism, it's just that garage Hammond-organ+na-na-na-na chorus song that we loved back in the days and I'm sure it will still make you jump around and recall you crazy nights in Babasonic, Bonden or Mango Bar. Simple yet effective, now dance.

Jinder Bueno

Jinder - Youth Blood. Been cracking my mind up looking for a video for this song these last weeks, but it just didn't come up yet, so here you are. Imagine Ladyhawke mixed up with Lykke Li. A tune that might also have perfectly fit in any of the latest Swedish-vampire films released during this year. Essential!

Also Swedish website r.fm have revealed their lists of the best of 2009 and reminded us this gem by Air. It's like playing Sonic the Hedgehog on LSD!

Indie Karaoke

Although "Everyday" from Vetiver was officially released on the last year's celebrated album "Tight Knit", the video didn't get a release until March of 2009. Karaoke videos have always been low budget, ugly, shabby and silly, something that it really works in this almost perfect song: opposite poles (at least at the beginning) attract.

Indie or alternative karaoke scenes are also used with good results in films such Lost in Translation and (500) days of summer - featuring Zooey Deschanel (She & Him)-, same as your local karaoke? No, ours have Chinese food and a waiter-singer singing Mandarin pop songs...

Piano Reworks

It looks like a new trend is starting to emerge in the latest months: classical piano reworks. If last month, French pianist Gonzales hit the blogosphere performing an epic piano interpretation from the trippy banger by Erol Alkan and Boys Noize "Waves", this month has been the turn for Australian producer Oli Chang with his Cinematic Remix take on Beyonce's Naughty Girl. It sounds like... American Beauty?

Kind of like Italian Luxembourguese musician Francesco Tristano work with DJ and producer Carl Craig and other techno classics (thanks Elena for this)

And if you let me pick from any of the thousands versions from "Walking on a dream", I wouldn't choose the original (it never convinced me) nor a remix, this would be my choice:

Play the music

Cricket is such an unknown sport here. In the land of football, this sport's got no presence or has it? Well, the 2008 Spanish champions played just few meters from my place and English and Irish pubs in the city show games every week but I never got to understand the rules...

As Telegraph states the funny thing is that a couple of Irishmen, The Duckworth Lewis Method, decided to pay homage to this traditionally English sport. This video uses a limited animation technique as Terry Gilliam's Monty Python, or Internet phenomenon Cyriak still does nowadays. Enjoy it!

Relax your mouth and yawn...

Been saving this for a while. I just wanted to put it in a new mix for the "surprise effect" cause I think it's worth the listen, another addition for our list of the best videos of 2009.

By the way I'm not the singer..

Rock carols

Don't worry about the start, Julian Casablancas comes from 1:14" ;)
This tune is the ending track from The Strokes' singer solo album "Phrazes for the young".
And by the way, the new album from the New Yorkers will be released next year 2010! After the solo releases of its components (the very Julian, Albert Hammond Jr., Little Joy, and the me not so likey Nickel Eye) it seems it'll be just awesome...
I wish all the carols were this way! Ah! And a new Crocoman Essential Mix coming up in few minutes!!

Disco Music is back

Duck Sauce. A brand new collaboration between Armand Van Helden and A-Trak. This song is sampled from I can do it by Final Edition (1979)

As Lavoisier said: Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.

What do i have to do to be so cool?

The Sunday Drivers, in my opinion one of the best Spanish bands, released a few weeks ago their new video from "The End of Maiden Trip" featuring the world synchronized swimming champions. Enjoy it!

We come from a place where we have geysers

The Northern cold is influencing my music taste I think..or just freezing my brain..
Besides rain..cold is coming up..
From Far far north music is coming down with the cold airflow..there is people inventing languages

Sigur Ros - Við spilum endalaust (A Take Away Show by La Blogotheque) (video link)

I don't want seeds in my cherry

Röyksopp - Happy Up Here

You know i really like it!

In one of those crazy fine Razzmatazz nights, my friend Christian dared to say this is the best song ever... Pure bliss, it's got pretty much everything: the ups and downs, the punch and melody, the man and the robot... you know it makes me happy! The video's got lights and music, graphics and 8 bit references, definitely a Fresh Stuff favorite!

Flash back

Last year, during the Christmas period, I was totally obsessed with an American band from San Diego, The Muslims.
Now they changed their name into The Soft Pack. (They were accused to have a racist band name). The single was Extinction and I felt in love with it! It reminds me of last winter. Great times! The whole album "The Muslims" released in march 09, is something great. Check it out!

The sounds from your soul

Tokyo Sex Destruction come from the city where the university I tried used to go is, Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona). Same location I'll be playing some music in few weeks, hope to see you there!! ;) More details, coming soon...

Back to them. Being one of our most international alternative bands, they used to sound like a mix between The International Noise Conspiracy, The early Hives but especially the Mooney Suzuki. Right now, their sound has evolved into a more soul sound due to their declared love for Stax. Here you'll find their new single, just what you needed to bring back your smile from the weekend.

weekend

I need to say a little about my marvellous weekend aswell.. ( fresh stuff goes to concert)
On saturday my friend Jorge called and said he has band invitations for Franz Ferdinand .. well i've seen them couple of years ago in Tallinn ( but obviously i was too drunk to really remember much about that) so i was really happy to refresh my memory.
Concert was better than i thought it's gonna be, guys made drum intro and i couldn't believe what i heared! f-king great! But the most surprising was the warm-up band- The Phenomenal Handclap Band.. these new yorkers have it all to become 'new entry' in my list..
( and then we all went to afterparty.. jajjajajja )

Fresh Stuff goes to party!

Yeah!
Taking advantage of the visit of Elena, one of our fantastic brand-new signs, we have decided to make a couple of visits to Razzmatazz, now that it is its anniversary and the line-up is just massive.

Yesterday, Feadz and Boys Noize rocked "The Loft" dancefloor, while (shite it was him!) Marky Ramone played his iTunes rock hits collection in the "Razz club", same that our local DJ... I guess we needed a bit more sleep to enjoy that all after Thursday party... Just as I did today. 12 hours in bed, 18.30h good morning Croco... and ready to go!

SO, today let me introduce once again our coolest export, Delorean, that will be playing the songs of their latest album out on the streets next January. While Lo.li.ta. dancefloor will host 2008 Belgian sensation Aeroplane with their personal view of balearic disco sound, music to fly... (that one was easy..)

Yes, sunny..

If this is the last dance, save it for me baby!!

I love The Raveonettes as much as i love sunny mornings. Just discovered video for 'The Last Dance' There's so much naive love in it that it makes me sick ( in a good way ) ICE CREAM IS FOR THE LOVERS, AND I WANT IT NOW!

The Raveonettes - Last Dance

Caribou - Crayon/Birthday (The Pink Room)

Great..Holland rocks..sorry it rains..

Panta rhei...

...everything flows.

Lenny Kravitz - Let love rule (Justice Remix)

The Midas Touch.
It's been some time since every little thing that Justice touches becomes gold and COOL. Take this one for
example: Lenny Kravitz the almost retired afro guitar player. His new song is not remarkable at all and he's been clearly in decadence for some time...

Now he's back in business, thanks to these f* Parisian. But what it makes this song special this time is the videoclip by mister Keith Scofield. I can see it like the perfect ending for an 80's action movie starring Kelly Kapowsky and Marty McFly. Another video favorite for 2009!

Best Coast - When i'm with you i have fun

My favourite ' rise and shine' song of this year is by Best Coast, i believe they're totally underrated in Europe, why is that? Bethany Cosentino with her amazing voice that expresses the summer lazyness and fun times rocks my socks off..

Morning vision

morning vision...

Paul Kalkbrenner - Aaron (Youtube link)

Air France - No excuses

Goosebumps.

This is my favourite video of 2009. No doubt. I don't know how many times I watched it.

"Paradise is no fantasy, no stupid escape: It's here and now, ready to be seized. No excuses."
Marc Hogan, Pitchfork.

Watch it HERE, for a better quality.

Developing also in music...

From Holland with love here i'm back...
Lately i've been very reflective about a lot of things and surely i'm more and more aware of how the third world isn't third anymore..
well to put it in an easier way..i found also something interesting from what is now to be said the "developing" world.
After the dirtier sounds of almost srilankian M.I.A. and Buraka som sistema that i personally love..
pumping some collaborations with MIA, Vampire weekend, Architecture in Helsinki and soon Crookers too..

An indie African mix...interesting experiments..

Passion Pit - The Reeling

'Look at me, oh look at me, is this the way i've always been, oh no oh no'
